So I know I'm a bit behind on February's post for my 12 In 2012 goals but I'm just going to roll it into this post as well. I'm pretty sure you don't mind.
For March we decided to go on a trip without family where the destination would also not be to visit family. Sounds like no big deal I'm sure, but people we have not been on a vacation of any kind with just the two of us SINCE OUR HONEYMOON!! What the what??! I'm not even sure how that happens. And in all of the (very modest) vacations we have taken in the last 5 years, only one of those was without family members! We love our family and all, but we were itchin' for a chance to get away just the two of us.
So. When I heard that one of my very favorite bands was playing in Tucson this weekend AND we got our tax refund, we figured there was no better time to head off for a little mini trip. It really is a shame that they were playing in Tucson though...Gary aptly described it as the New Jersey of Arizona. It's gross. It's dusty. It has the most ridiculous traffic I've ever seen, especially considering that it's neither a large city nor a very cosmopolitan one.
Since this post is getting awfully wordy, I'll just flood the rest with pictures. (Please excuse me for posting crappy phone pics, but I didn't want to lug around the DSLR.)
View from our room...surprisingly lovely.
We had to move out of our first hotel room because there were a ton of BEES in the bedroom!! Good ol' Tucson.
Dinner at Pita Jungle...one of our all time fav eateries.
Fun. There are no words for how amazing these guys are live. Nate Russ was incredible way back when he was in the Format, but I think he has really come into his own with this new group. There is such joy in Fun's music and the acoustics and sound balancing in the Rialto was the BEST I've ever heard in a concert. Un. Real.
After the show we were so pooped that we crashed in our (unbelievably uncomfortable) sleep number bed and fell asleep while watching tv and eating pringles. Don't judge.
The next morning. Gary has a music hangover.
Breakfast: my first ever eggs benny...delicious!
The last thing we did before heading home--a couple's mani/pedi date!
I got the gel/shellac treatment on my nails and toes and this stuff in INCREDIBLE! I think it may literally be bulletproof.
Teddy Grahams = premium road trip snacks.
***Did you guess how I fulfilled February's 12 in 2012? Ahem, my hair is no longer blonde! I went dark brown with auburn tones. I reaaaalllly wanted to go full red but after trying samples against my skin tone my stylist helped me see that I basically look like a chubby clown with true red.***
A few weeks ago I co-hosted a shower for my BFF Carly celebrating her "journey" to motherhood. Shanna and her brother Marv did a FANTASTIC job catering the food. Seriously, first class stuff! I got off easy and was in charge of the decorations/invitations/favors.
I made this chalkboard banner for the shower and now it's hanging in my living room. Not going to lie, it was my favorite bit that I made.
C "helping" Auntie Carly open a gift for the bebe.
Today was a rough day. I think I said "no", "stop", "don't touch", and "go to the corner" more in four hours than I have in the last four weeks. C has re-entered what my friend Shanna refers to as the schizophrenic drug addict phase.
I had hoped to finally post the shower I co-hosted for my friend a couple weeks ago, but instead I want to talk about C's hair. Her red baby hair never fell out (I guess this is a thing that happens?) and instead it's grown out in weird stringy straight bits, while underneath her hair is growing in strawberry blonde and super curly. If I don't get the kid in ponytails her hair is...well, not cute. It's like a bad toupee that she's wearing over pretty hair.
* I feel like I can't quite get 100% healthy this year. A car accident, the flu, strep throat, and now a sinus infection. Or maybe I'm dying. Possibly the black lung. I'm sure that if I went to the doctor they could tell me but between crawling under the covers and blowing through 2 boxes of Kleenex in 36 hours I don't really have time to go in.
* C had her 18 month checkup today. She's back up in the 75th percentile for weight and 95th for height. Tall, tall girl. Her ped was super impressed by her word count (almost 200 with several phrases and sentences on top of that). Most kids her age have around ten. Pardon me while I brag, but I think my kid is a genius. She talks almost nonstop at home (never mind that she is shy around adults) but she can ALSO count to six. Sometimes I have to help her remember '2' but I'm not going to hold it against her. On top of that she went #2 in the potty today. We're not even potty training yet and all it took was her daddy asking if she needed to poopy on the potty. She ran on her sweet fat little legs to her little potty chair. I think she might be a genius. Does anyone know where I can get a baby IQ tested?
* I have a "12 in 2012" post to make. I actually checked off February's item on the last day of January, but I've been so busy being sick and planning a baby shower that I have yet to take a picture.
* Local band Bears of Manitou are releasing their first album this month. They're so rad and I'm pumped to blast them on my iPod while I drive. It will be a nice change up from the Banana song from Yo Gabba Gabba and "I've Got a Dream" from Tangled. These are the ONLY songs C will listen to in the car without yelling at me.
* Have you seen this video? Hilarious. Thanks to my little brother for bringing it to my attention.
* I can't find a picture to add to this post. Let's pretend that I took a totally rad/hilarious/adorable photo and shared it with you and it is relevant to some part of this post. Also let's pretend like this post wasn't just a bunch of brain vomit and you still want to be friends, m'kay?
While this sick momma and her sick little girl crash on the couch ans watch peppa pig reruns I thought I'd try out mobile blogging. Fingers crossed that this works!
I like play dates with Jenny and June. I get the chance to talk face to face
with another adult, get out of the house, and C gets to play with June
which is great since they are destined to be dear friends for life. Do
you hear me girls? For LIFE. I mean, they are two daughters of two friends who have known each other since the awkward days of prepubescence, they're only 8 months apart, and they're both redheads! The universe has spoken ladies. This is happening.
This last shot is very possibly my favorite picture of C ever. Why play on the slide when you can get yourself stuck in the fence?
I'm so behind on blogging. I still have Christmas, my graduation, a wedding, a concert and a baby to post about. But honestly, I'm super burned out and all I want to do is curl up under a pile of quilts with some cookies or french fries. Because it is less fatty I'm going to share some shots from a mini shoot I did the other day. My cousin had her baby girl about a week ago and I got to play around with her while taking some newborn pictures and I have to say, she was delicious. It's ALMOST enough to make me want another. Almost.
Baby feet are my favorite things. Ever.
I love pictures of infants crying. Not in a weird way, I just love to capture that side of them because all too soon the crying goes from something sweet and pitiful to nails on a chalkboard.
